An email I received from Yumna (Durban, South Africa)

What is it with rude South African doctors who think as though they doing you a favour.I was in Makkah a few weeks ago and after the afternoon prayers my daughter started having fits.Naturally I knew what to do and gave her a diazepam rectal solution as directed by the physician. However, once she calmed down I told my son to call the South African doctor who was staying in our hotel to pass by the room to just check if everything is alright. He was someone that the family was acquainted with. I must say I was appalled by his behaviour. When he came to our room, he first told us ten things before checking my daughter. "I need to go to the haram..I wish to spend maximum time in the haram. I still need to read quraan.I am not here to check patients." Surely, helping someone else in need is also a form of worship.I was quite disgusted by his behaviour. The irony though is that whilst he claimed that he was in Makkah to spend maximum time in the haram, I always happened to bump into him in the shopping centre...Sad that some of our South African Muslim doctors walk around with such pride and arrogance. Whatever happened to those dedicated doctors who became doctors to serve humanity and mankind. Is becoming a doctor in today's world all about money? I can tell you one thing though, whilst many people have spoken highly about this Durban based physician that came to assess my daughter, I have certainly lost all respect for him as my family and I have seen his true colours......

What are your thoughts on this one? Are there physicians out there who are dedicated to their patients in terms of saving lives without worrying about the monetary aspect of the profession or are the physicians of today simply in the profession due to the financial benefits attached to their job description?
