Al-Imdaad Foundation spearheads
Ladysmith hailstones relief efforts
11 December 2012
The Al-Imdaad Foundation has dispatched an emergency relief team to Ladysmith, KwaZulu-Natal, after more than 300 residents homes were damaged by hailstones on December 9, 2012. The hailstones, some as big as tennis balls, caused widespread damage in the suburbs of Acaciavale, Ntombi's Camp and Steadville. The relief efforts are continuing.
“The hailstones were bigger than golf balls and they caused ceilings to collapse. This was followed by a heavy downpour, which in turn damaged people's belongings,” said Abed Karrim, project co-ordinator of the Al-Imdaad Foundation.
The Foundation distributed much needed aid to the affected. “We spent the night distributing blankets and mattresses. Today we have distributed plastic and tarpaulin sheets to project homes from heavy downpours. We have initiated feeding centres and are providing three hot meals a day to hundreds affected by this disaster,” said Karrim.
Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC Nomusa Dube was also present and had addressed the masses including other NGOs together with the Al Imdaad Foundation about the situation on the ground. One person has been injured during the storm.

Ladies and Gentlemen and all other assorted crazy people, it's birthday time again!
This year we are having one MASSIVE birthday party for anyone born in May and wanting to have a blast whilst raising funds for some pretty awesome kids.
So join the especially amazing Katlego Setwaba, the fantastic Layla Rabaney, myself (Atiya Mosam) and all the other May babies as we celebrate ReDineos 4th Birthday.
ReDineo is an organization that provides scholarship, mentorship and leadership skills to promising young scholars in grades 9-11. But I'm not gonna bore you with our sales pitch cos I'm sure you know awesomeness when you see it.
This is how it works:
We all have that one friend that would stab people over a boardgame if it was socially acceptable. And 30 Seconds is probably the one game that brings out the crazy in people. So grab them crazies (although I am pretty sure you won't have to do much convincing) and sign up for the biggest, baddest (in a non-violent sense) 30 Seconds Tournament.
100 teams play each other in the first round with the top 50 teams progressing to round two. Thereafter teams will be eliminated on a knockout basis. And of course, one team and one team only will emerge victorious and will do their victory laps on an amazing racetrack when they claim their prizes of an advanced driving course for each team member.
So here's what you need to do:
1) Form a team of three.
2) Come up with a team name that begins with "It's All Fun And Games Until..." - prizes will be awarded for the best team name.
3) Pay the entrance fee of R100 per person.
