WOOLWORTHS SOUTH AFRICA COMES UNDER FIRE

Woolworths South Africa has come under fire after Justin Harrison, a famed blog writer claimed on his blog that the food and retailer's advertising in recruitment advertisements excluded White South Africans.He mentioned that Woolworths South Africa posted ads on its career site saying its jobs are open to African, Coloured and Indian candidates only.Harrison further mentioned that Woolworths has since changed the advertisement 'in a bid to cover up the blatant racist ads. Harrison wrote in his follow up blog that as a post apartheid child,he is "neither politically motivated or (sic) inspired,however,the increasing blatant racist economic policies that are very clearly exclusive of whites is starting to require a voice and some decisive action."
However, Mail and Guardian journalist Khaya Dlanga seems to think otherwise. "There is nothing wrong with what Woolworths is doing. People must stop getting their panties in a bunch.They talk about reverse racism. Well, let's go back to history class, and please turn the pages of your textbooks (I know you had them when you were at school so don't even front). When racism was legislated in South Africa, the people who were denying black people jobs were white.Here, white people aren't being denied jobs by black people. In the olden days, black people were denied jobs by white people – it was the law. In this case, it's not about denying white people jobs, it's about making sure that in departments where black people are under-represented, there is more representation.Woolworths is not the only company with this policy, many South African companies that have an under-representation of black people institute the policy, they just don't say it out loud. Besides, what's the point about Woolies being moral when it comes to the environment but not with its employment practices?And can those white people who are whining about this stop it already? This won't affect them at all, only 8% of white people are unemployed in South Africa vs over 40% of black people. So chill, angry white people. (No, not you reading this, you are not angry.)"
He further mentioned that there is no agenda against white people. The only agenda there is, is the pursuit of fair representation. There is no crime in Woolworths trying to rectify the wrongs of the past.

The Apartheid system in South Africa was abolished in 1991,twenty one years ago. However the issue of racism still seems to be rearing its ugly head..Do you think Justin Harrison is right in his stance regarding the Woolworths debacle or is Khaya Dlanga's theory justifiable considering that he is a black man who was possibly a victim of the Apartheid regime?
